Shard Squad Releases DLC with 4 New Shards and a New Element; Watch the Trailer

The new Wind Character Pack DLC for Shard Squad was released today on Steam, bringing new playable characters and expanding gameplay possibilities.
Check out the new launch trailer for the DLC, highlighting the new wind characters and their abilities:

Content Designed for Fans

The wind element had already been mentioned several times within the game, which led to many questions from players, now answered with the arrival of this new pack. Here’s what’s included in the Wind Characters DLC:

  • 4 new Wind elemental Shards
  • Exclusive abilities for each character
  • New builds and strategic combinations
All content is integrated directly into the game’s progression system, allowing the new characters to be used normally in matches and within existing builds, rather than functioning as a separate mode.
Rennan Costa, project director at The Root Studios, explained the goal of the expansion: “We created this DLC to surprise fans and thank them for the game’s success. The intention is also to expand gameplay possibilities. Now there are 28 different little monsters to collect.”
You can check it out here:
The expansion launches with a symbolic price and 15% discount for a limited time, and the full game will also go on sale on Thursday, March 19.

Meet the New Wind Shards

The DLC adds four new elemental Shards, each with its own abilities and distinct playstyles. They were designed for players who prefer fast-paced gameplay focused on mobility and area control.
Amélie
Previously the tree NPC in the game, she now becomes a playable character. She has a strategic playstyle and a unique mechanic that interacts with the dash, pulling pinwheels scattered around the map when the dash is used.
Ico
An apparently cute wind kitten that wields a powerful wind drill capable of tearing through enemies in its path.
Trina
A chaotic character inspired by the universe of Machick, another hit in the genre. She summons cyclones that bounce across the screen, spreading damage in multiple directions.
Markhor
An imposing character who summons several hurricanes capable of lifting enemies and spreading chaos across the battlefield.

Collaboration with Machick 2

The DLC also marks a special collaboration with Machick 2, from the studio Dead Pixel, another standout in the bullet heaven genre. Trina, known as the wind chicken, is the result of this partnership between the developers, who share a close friendship and joined forces to create her.
Arthur Câmara, creative director of Machick 2, commented on the collaboration: “This collab with Shard Squad is very important for Machick 2. It’s the first collaboration for our chicken game, and it’s really exciting to have an exclusive character in Shard Squad. It’s an incredible feeling. I’d also like to announce that Trina will be a playable character in Machick 2 as well.”
Trina will arrive in Machick 2 on March 19 in a free update. On the same date, both games will enter a special limited-time sale on Steam. There is also a promotional bundle for players who purchase both games together, offering an even bigger discount:

Even More Content on the Way

The developers also revealed that support for the game will remain strong after the DLC launch.
According to the team: “We want to build on this success by bringing Shard Squad to consoles, and maybe even to mobile devices. We’re also working on another major update that will be completely free for everyone who owns the game, bringing something many players have been asking for. Support isn’t going to stop. Much more content will still be released for Shard Squad as a thank you for the incredible reception we’ve been getting. Thank you all so much. It’s truly amazing to see our game being played by so many people from so many places around the world.”
More information about the upcoming features will be revealed very soon.
